An unexpected find at Sheffield Botanic Garden. A Chris Chadwell collection from the Himalaya with large, rounded, bright green leaves that emerge pink when young and fade to purple-red in autumn and winter. Leaves are glabrous with a distinctly hairy margin of soft, white hairs. In areas less prone to frost, it can be semi-evergreen, saying that it has withstood -6C in Glasgow while holding onto its foliage. Flowers are yet to be observed. Possibly accessioned at SBG in 2009.
