Bergenia ‘Balbithan’

An attractive and rarely seen cultivar distributed by Mary McMurtrie, who named it after her nursery of the same name. It may, however, be Bergenia purpurascens 'Irish Crimon'. It forms a neat clump of upright, glossy, dark green leaves with a red fringed margin that turn the most sumptuous red-purple in winter, almost black. Flowers are yet to be observed.

Available from Monksilver Nursery and The Plantsman’s Preference.
