Bergenia ‘Walter Kienli’

An exceptionally rare cultivar with very little information about it online or in literature. A plant under this name was included in the RHS Wisley trial in 2007-2009, with material sent from Binny Plants. It is still growing at the nursery but is no longer available for sale. A Hardy Plant Society description states that it has 'large, wavy-edged leaves' and 'tightly compressed heads of lilac-pink blooms fading to carmine' on tall stems. A cutting received from Binny Nursery in 2025 has proven to be a vigorous grower producing large, rounded, wavy edged evergreen leaves that hold up well through frost. Flowers are yet to be observed.

  • Garden cultivar. Considered to be rare and of critical conservation concern.

  • Included in the RHS Wisley Bergenia trial from 2007-2009. However, it was not awarded an Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
