Bergenia ‘Borodin’
A rarely cultivated 'Ballawley' hybrid introduced by Jim Archibald circa 1980. It has a distinctive growth habit with thick, leathery, bright green leaves and deep veins giving it a puckered look. Its rhizomes grow deeper in the soil than other Bergenia making this an excellent ground covering plant. Eventually becoming a large plant, it is slightly smaller than its cousin 'Bartok', another 'Ballawley' hybrid selection, growing to about 50cm tall. Highly attractive drooping clusters of pink-red flowers held in large bunches on branching panicles on stems growing well above the foliage are a real highlight in spring. Reminiscent of B. purpurascens. Very rarely available for sale in the UK.
